Got what it takes to create a Choc Lit hero?

For authors and literary agents looking for a publisher, please follow the guidelines below. We are particularly keen to see paranormal heroes!

Submission Criteria

We’re looking for more heroes to add to our collection!
If you have a novel with an irresistible hero and you’re looking for a publisher, why not send it to us for consideration? Simply follow our submission guidelines below.

We’re looking for novels that are:

  • romantic fiction where the writing clearly develops the hero’s point of view
  • for an adult audience
  • 60,000 to 100,000 words long
  • in English
  • completed – we can’t consider works in progress
  • previously unpublished
  • not currently accepted by any other publisher or agent.

We’re not looking for erotic fiction, although sex scenes that develop the plot are fine by us!

Submission Guidelines

Our submission guidelines are as follows:

Literary Agents
If you feel the manuscript meets our submission guidelines please submit in electronic format (PDF, PRC, Ms Word or RTF) to your Choc Lit contact. If you do not have a contact please email
submissions@choclitpublishing.co.uk and we will contact you directly.

Authors
We strongly advise that you have your novel assessed before you send it to us, so that you have a chance to correct any obvious problems with your story or style. There are many people offering manuscript assessment services, including the Romantic Novelists’ Association which has a New Writers’ Scheme.

Once your novel is ready to be submitted, please send us a synopsis in an email to
submissions@choclitpublishing.co.uk. Do not send as an attachment. Please remember that a synopsis provides the whole story of your novel in a nutshell – the main characters, their motivations and a summary of the plot, including the ending.

If we feel your synopsis has met our Choc Lit hero tastes we will request, via email, that you complete the online Choc Lit Submission Form and submit this together with your novel in MS Word or RTF (text file). Please present these as professionally as possible – there are lots of pointers available on websites such as the Romantic Novelists’ Association. We will email you promptly to say we’ve received your submission and let you know our timescale for responding along with the next steps. We will either then accept or decline to publish your novel, subject to our agreed contract terms.

N.B.: As we are potentially making a substantial financial commitment, we like to interview our authors to see if they’re the sort of person we could work with.

We also like our authors to be proactive and help us by meeting any agreed deadlines and actively pursuing marketing/sales opportunities.
