Where heroes are like chocolate - irresistible!

Authors

It was three years ago when I first encountered Choc Lit Publishing and since then I've been consistently impressed by the standard of the books they publish. Yes – it's chick lit and you're not going to end up struggling through something that was written with the Booker Prize in mind, but it's at the upper end of the genre, with good writing, romantic content and, best of all, a real story that you can believe in

Short Story

Got what it takes to create a Choc Lit hero?

We are now accepting submissions!
Please note that we do have a four - six month review period should we decide to review your manuscript.
All manuscript are reviewed, in the first instance, by our Choc Lit Tasting panel who are genuine readers across all
age bands.

Please ensure you read our Submission Criteria and follow our Submission Guidelines below before you submit to us.

Submission Criteria

Your novel must be:

  • romantic fiction which must include the hero’s (male) point of view
  • for an adult audience
  • 70,000 to 100,000 words long
  • in English
  • completed – we can’t consider works in progress
  • previously unpublished
  • not currently accepted by any other publisher or agent
  • contemporary, historical, mystery, paranormal, etc.

We’re not looking for erotic fiction, although sex scenes that develop the plot are fine by us!

Submission Guidelines

We strongly advise that you have your novel assessed before you send it to us, particularly if you are a debut author, so that you have a chance to correct any obvious problems with your story or style. There are many people offering manuscript assessment services, including the Romantic Novelists’ Association which has a New Writers’ Scheme, Story Tracks, Jay Dixon (email available on request), Hilary Johnson, Writers Workshop and many more.

Once your novel is ready to be submitted, please send us a synopsis in an email to submissions@choclitpublishing.co.uk. Please do not send as an attachment as your email will be lost in our spam folder and you won’t get a response! Remember that a synopsis provides the whole story of your novel in a nutshell – the main characters, their motivations and a summary of the plot, including the ending. Please also include a paragraph about yourself to include any writing experience, social media activity and whether your manuscript has been assessed, if you are an unpublished author.

Please do not send unsolicited submissions by post you will not get a response from us. Unfortunately, we do not have the manpower to read manuscripts by post or the time to respond. Please ensure you follow the procedures outlined above.

If we feel your synopsis has met our Choc Lit hero tastes we will request, via email, that you complete the online Choc Lit Submission Form and submit this together with your complete novel in MS Word or RTF (text file). Please present these as professionally as possible – there are lots of pointers available on websites such as the Romantic Novelists’ Association. We also recommend Choc Lit author and creative writing tutor, Sue Moorcroft’s Manuscript Presentation Tips here. (Our submissions are reviewed by our Choc Lit Tasting Panel, independent readers who can be quite picky about badly presented manuscripts, don’t give them an excuse to fail yours!)

We will email you promptly to say we’ve received your submission and let you know our timescale for responding along with the next steps. We will either then accept or decline to publish your novel, subject to our agreed contract terms.

N.B.: As we are potentially making a substantial financial commitment, we like to interview our authors to see if they’re the sort of person we could work with.

We also like our authors to be proactive and help us by meeting any agreed deadlines and actively pursuing publicity opportunities.
