Although Highland Storms is in fact a sequel, it is not dependent on having read Trade Winds although, I really urge you to read it first if possible. Why? Well because the protagonist Brice Kinross, although just a baby in the previous novel, his background and birth in China to parents of Swedish and Scottish descent is an integral part of the story. It was to me anyway as I enjoy family sagas, in fact I would love to read more stories about the Kinross's as I was disappointed when the book ended. ...The novel certainly met my expectations with romance and adventure in a historical setting. If you enjoy historical romance then I recommend you give Christina Courtenay's novels a try. Lindy, Lindy Lou Mac’s Book Reviews Read the full review here ...

...Christina Courtenay does not write what I would class as traditional historical romance novels. Christina Courtenay writes historical romance with a bit more grit and depth to them. What I like about her writing is the inclusion of historical detail. Not just the rosy details, but interesting factual details which gives it a greater sense of realism. VERDICT: For historical romance with a difference, look no further than Christina Courtenay. Highland Storms is the third book she's written and I think it's my favourite so far. RATING: 8/10 - Brilliant, couldn't put it down. Laura, reviewer Book Chick City Read the full review here ...

RT Reviewer Maria Planansky is such a fan of Christina Courtenay's historical romance Highland Storms, that she wants to share exactly what makes this tale a standout read. My reaction comes from Highland Storm’s strength. This killer Scottish romance is seeped in fascinating history, with plenty of chemistry and action to go around. Brice Kinross and Marsaili Buchanan are a devoted couple with passion that simmers into a slow, satisfying boil.... .... Highland Storms is more than a Scots-soaked romance, it’s also a bit of an education. But if, like me, you don’t want this author's entertaining brand of school to end when you get to the last page of her latest novel, be sure to check out Trade Winds and other historical romances by Christina Courtenay! 4 1/2 Marie, RT Reviewer Read the full review here ...

Brice Kinross has had a pretty tough time after being betrayed by both his brother and his childhood sweetheart. So he decides to start afresh and leaves Sweden for Scotland, where he takes over the family estate. Once there, he falls for beautiful housekeeper Marsaili, but can he trust her? This sequel to Trade Winds is passionate and engaging, with some amazingly evocative descriptions of the rugged Highlands. A great winter read. Choc Lit is a fairly recent imprint, aimed at those of us who like nothing betting than curling up in an armchair with a good book and a chocolate fix.... Cliched? Yes. I nevertheless found myself caring about the characters, and there’s no doubt that Highland Storms does exactly what it says on the chocolate biscuit tin. HIGHLAND STORMS is a lovely Scottish tale interwoven with suspense and romance. This charming novel by Christina Courtenay will leave readers sitting on the edge of their seats, reading quickly to find out what kind of mishap will befall them next. The characters are charismatic, and the details are rich. The secondary characters within this novel add a lot of pizzazz to the tale. I truly enjoyed getting to know them. Marsaili is a beautiful woman with a big heart. She envelops her past around her to remember what her mother has gone through and vows never to love a man. But her heart and body will not be denied the love of Brice. Brice is an appealing man with a wicked sense of humor. He teases Marsaili mercilessly and is shocked when he discovers that it is he who is smitten and in love. I highly recommend HIGHLAND STORMS to all romance readers! You will laugh, shudder at the mishaps and tear-up when two hearts soar together. Billy Jo, reviewer Romance Junkies Read the full review here ...

When I was invited to review Highland Storms, I did say that it wasn’t my first choice of story. I’ve never really been able to get into historical novels (so sorry to all the historical novel writers out there!) but I was assured that this would book would change my opinion. It most certainly did. I loved it and couldn’t keep away from it... Kim, The Book Worm Read the full review here ...

Highland Storms tells the story of Brice Kinross, the son of Killian and Jess fromTrade Winds, and, coming from such impressive hero stock, Brice had a lot to live up to in order to convince in his own right. Happily, he’s different to his father but no less appealing, and I especially liked that Christina didn’t create a mini-me version of Killian but let Brice grow into his role on his own terms. I loved Marsaili’s character and how she is strong and capable while under attack, rather than simply being a damsel in need of a rescuer. Special mention also has to go to her wise and faithful protector, Liath, who was another of my favourite characters in the book. I don’t want to give any more away about the storyline or the other characters involved but I can wholeheartedly recommend this as an engrossing read from an author who has become a firm favourite of mine. This is the second novel by Christina Courntenay that I have read so I had high expectations from Highland Storms. Christina did not disappoint. She takes us back to 1754 in the remote Scottish Highlands, just as life is beginning to settle after the Jacobite uprising of 1745. I enjoyed seeing how Brice went about winning the trust and support of his townsfolk, and Marsaili, after years of neglect at the hands of Mr Seton. Plenty of romance and adventure in a remote location had me willing Brice to overcome the problems he faced. This is a sequel to Trade Winds but can be read as a stand alone adventure. Loved it! 5 out of 5! Carol, Dizzy C’s Little Book Blog Read the full review here ...

This book is full of adventure and has so many nerve wracking twists and turns that I could not put it down. It is beautifully written and full of interesting historical facts and has such likeable characters, which are sometimes hard to come across in historical novels. I also loved the fact that Courtenay included the loyal dog Liath as Marsaili’s companion and guardian. This is a superb novel with the type of rugged setting that needs a brave hero as the central character. I really enjoyed reading Highland Storms and will definitely be reading Courtenay’s two other novels. For lovers of Historical romance this is the book for you. There is a gorgeous mix of adventure, romance and elements of humour in places all set in the Highlands of Scotland. Beautifully written with a very quick pace to the story (well I did read it less than two days!) that I just couldn’t put down. Whilst I think I know the answer to this, I can’t help hoping the Kinross family saga’s continue! Can’t decide who is the more dreamy of Hero .. Kinross the Father in Trade Winds or Brice in this novel .. both sound utterly yum!! Thank you Christina for another fab story .. I’m fast being a big fan of your work! Last week I reviewed the excellent Trade Winds and having enjoyed it so much I went straight on to read the sequel; Highland Storms which was released today. I can safely say that if you enjoyed Trade Winds, you will certainly enjoy its successor. Highland Storms picks up the story of the Kinross family some twenty years after Trade Winds and focuses on Killian and Jess’s first son Brice as he returns to the Scottish Highlands to claim his place as Laird of the family estate, Rosyth... ...As you can probably tell, I really enjoyed this novel and I’m already hoping there might be more Kinross adventures from Christina in future. Highly recommended! 5/5 Amanda, One More Page. Read the full review here ...

The first thing I will say about this book is you do not need to read the first book to understand the storyline in Highland Storms although having said that after reading this book I now would like to go back and read Trade Winds.... ...he book held my interest from the first page right to the very last page and I think that was because of the amount of content in this book it seemed like there was always something going on from discovering hidden tunnels, false arrests and abductions, also at one point Liath the hound a rescuer! I love Christina's style and this book won't disappointment. The tale heightens to ever increasing danger for those involved and you'll find you won't be able to put the book down. As part of Christina's blog tour I promised I would add my version of Brice. I have to say as heroes go, he really didn't disappoint. I think how I imagined him may have something to do with recently watching Crazy, Stupid, Love and discovering Ryan Gosling's six-pack so here's how I imagined Brice. The novel has a gorgeous cover design too, a beautiful colour which to me evokes the purple heather mentioned in the landscape in the book. A lovely book to sit back, curl up and relax with and be transported back to the mid 18th century Highlands. This was a bit of different kind of read for me, and I got drawn into the story and the period, with some marvellous characters, my favourites being Brice, Marsaili and Liath the dog! I will definitely read more by this author. This book follows on from the earlier novel 'Trade Winds', but 'Highland Storms' can definitely be read as a very enjoyable stand alone novel too. The love story between the two main characters builds beautifully. Both Brice and Marsaili have their own reasons for not wishing to become entangled with anyone romantically and both are determined to hide their secret attraction for the other. There's a lot at stake for both characters as they fight for what they believe in and forge ahead with their loyalties to those who need them. I especially loved Liath and his total devotion to his mistress and the way he guarded her against everyone. Everyone, that is, except for Brice... 9/10. Although following on from the excellent Trade Winds which was shortlisted for the Romantic Novelists' Association's Pure Passion Award for Best Historical Fiction 2011 this is a romantic and historical novel that can equally be read as a stand alone story and it's as good if not better than Trade Winds. A fabulous setting - Scotland - coupled with some vivid characters that provide romance and heartache in equal measure. As with many of the books published by Choc Lit this one is a real treat. What seems like a slow plot in the beginning becomes super exciting in the last half. There's false accusations and arrests, beatings, hidden tunnels, lies revealed, abductions, escapes, and a ship briefly with a docking in Amsterdam. And the best part??? The dog. There's this dog named Liath and his role isn't minimal. The loveable hound even saves the day at point. I absolutely loved this scene! I stayed up till 4am reading this scene. I couldn't put the book down. ...I wholeheartedly give this five stars, five well deserved stars. Tara, Book Babe Read the full review here ...
