Where heroes are like chocolate - irresistible!

Authors

It was three years ago when I first encountered Choc Lit Publishing and since then I've been consistently impressed by the standard of the books they publish. Yes – it's chick lit and you're not going to end up struggling through something that was written with the Booker Prize in mind, but it's at the upper end of the genre, with good writing, romantic content and, best of all, a real story that you can believe in

Where did you find the inspiration for your latest novel, Love Letters?

Katie

The inspiration for this story was Ireland, a country I’ve always loved, literary festivals, which I also love, and Irish writers – there’s something about the Seamus Heaney’s of the world which are very attractive!

What was particularly challenging about writing this story?

Katie

Getting it right!   I was fairly confident about the literary festival bit, but trying to keep my characters apart when all they wanted to do was be together, was difficult.

What do you love most about your hero and heroine?

Katie

I love Laura’s pragmatic attitude to her early love life and she embraces the new one.  I love everything about Dermot.  I just wish he was real!

You’ve been described as ‘Jilly Cooper for the grown-ups’ – why do you think this is?

Katie

I don’t think my books are more grown up that Jilly Cooper’s.  Hers are much longer which I think makes them more grown up than mine.   I think we both write escapist fiction.

How would you describe your hero Dermot Flynn in terms of chocolate?

Katie

Dermot is a rich milk chocolate, not too creamy, run through with Irish Cream liqueur, like Baileys.  He's the kind of chocolate that's so delicious you find yourself eating too much.  Then you slightly regret it.  Until a bit later, when you eat another bit.
